Hi, my name is Edward L. Deci. I am a professor of Social Sciences at the University of University of Rochester. I hold a PH.D. in psychology from Carnegie-Mellon University, and I studied at the University of Pennsylvania, the University of London, and Hamilton College. I also worked at Stanford University. I was born in 1942 and am still chasing my goals today.
For forty years now I've been working on theories regarding motivation and what causing people to pursue things. I have published ten books, including Intrinsic Motivation, The Psychology of Self-Determination and many more. All of what I've been working on and all my research has lead me to co-founding the Self-determination Theory. This basically is the culmination of my work to today.
I have made a lot of work through my days of teaching and researching but the culmination of my work is the Self-Determination Theory. This theory connects ambition, determination, and initiative to the everyday person. Talking about what motivates people to do something, and what stops them. This could be something connected with home life or social life. How this all connects to class is through the idea of getting children motivated to learn. We talked about what methods are effective in teaching and what we would do for special cases if students misbehaved. This all has a lot to do with the Theory that I started. Directing students down the right path and how to do that. What to do in the classroom has a lot to do with how to motivate students. Check out some overviews!
